Save Pottstown!! was created as a public service to the taxpayers and community of Pottstown, Pennsylvania. The very few voters of Pottstown (1,900 in a town of 22,000+) recently voted into office Thomas Hylton, who currently sits on the Pottstown School Board. This blog presents articles on Hylton, those presently available (for free!) on the internet. Additionally, documents secured through Pennsylvania’s Right To Know Law will be included on this site.
Hylton won his seat on school board through the time tested tradition of fear tactics using a variety of methods: slick expensive brochures mailed to residents of Pottstown and paid advertising on the opinion page of his former employer The Mercury (www.pottsmerc.com). He packaged himself as a 1) a preserver of Pottstown’s neighborhood schools, 2) a practicer of fiscal responsibility, and 3) a promoter of open government. His writings often only tell one side of the story and leave many facts not addressed or simply omitted from the equation. My goal with this blog is to present the facts omitted and to present the whole story so that readers can become educated to the actions of their elected officials.
Knowledge is power. Please read the articles posted and absorb! And enjoy!

This is an awesome site. Really, it is so nice to know that there are kindred spirits ready to take back Pottstown. I would love to buy you a cup of coffee!
Thank you! We aim to please! This blog was created as a public service…one that doesn’t cost the good taxpayers of Pottstown…
A cup of coffee? Heck, I’ll buy this blogger a steak and lobster dinner with all the trimmings. By getting the truth out about Mr. Hylton he/she is doing more to “save Pottstown” than anyone has for a long, long time.
All I can say is I feel really bad for the person who started this hateful blog – it’s clear you are in serious need of counseling. Many people in this town are working hard to improve the community. This blog is totally unproductive. You should get some professional help. Good Luck.
ptowndowntowner,
Hateful? Perhaps some posts could be described as hateful. I’d agree that I’d rather read less barbs on these pages. They may distract some readers from the facts.
However the “Save Pottstown” blogger is not in need of counceling. His/her head is clear. The truth is that Mr. Hylton has done more than any single individual to hold Pottstown back with his outdated, unworkable, unaffordable ideology and his refusal to listen to what others have to say or to work with others to the betterment of our community. The sooner the People of Pottstown understand that, the sooner Pottstown can make difinitive progress. Therefore this blog is certainly not unproductive. It’s like a breath of fresh air, albeit perhaps with a little “hate” mixed in.
The fact is that Mr. Hylton’s circumventive denigrative tactics often have a tendencey to bring out the worst in the good people of Pottstown who actually care about the folks who live here, and the future of our town. Tom brings those feelings upon himself. That is sad.
So why dont you just come out and say who you are and stop hiding behind a stupid blog? Be for real!
my, oh my – downtowner… you are truly in a state of denial. perhaps there is a group discount at the shrink??? i assume, by your alias, that you live in the downtown – neighbors with hylton, i presume??? i honestly can’t believe that he has you hook-line-and sinker. relationships of any sort with hylton usually only works out for a limited amount of time if you have half a brain in your head and want to use it… and i certainly hope so for you. he discards anyone who decides to think on their own or have ideas that vary in anyway from his.
savepottstown…i like the way you think, keep up the good work!
as far as the counseling goes..
who has a peep mirror above who’s door? …enough said.
I am a very passionate person – and get worked up when I see the same injustices occur time after time – especially when those injustices happen and nobody calls them out.
Over the years I’ve been living in Pottstown I have been witness to the underhanded tactics used by Tom Hylton to tear people down. Far too many good decent people have been sidelined by his actions (and some have even moved out of town) and now that he is a public official, the kid gloves are off.
While I agree that I sometimes go off the deep end, after being force fed Hylton’s lines of BS over the years (and seeing that none of it works), I can only retort with the facts and my own personal experiences (and those experiences of people who have first hand knowledge of the facts). I did, at one time, honestly believe a good deal of his beliefs…but after a lot of reading and research (and what I’ve seen living in Pottstown), I don’t buy any of it anymore. Hylton has been trying for 36+ years to get things changed in Pottstown…and I just don’t see where his efforts have paid off for the borough or its taxpayers. He seems to have profited handsomely from his efforts though.
So, if you don’t like my blog. No problem. Don’t visit my site. You have free will. I will continue to expose the facts that Hylton never does. I will continue to comment on ideas that Hylton never proposes. As long as I live in Pottstown and continue to be a Pottstown taxpayer, I will continue to fight injustice and discrimination in the best way I know how…through words and actions.
Thanks for reading!!
As I am a previous employee of the Borough, I have seen firsthand many of the acts described and alot that people wouldn’t even believe. How about we could have had another business in town on Keystone Blvd. that would have been a transfer station for garbage and recycling. Not only would it have created jobs in town, it may also have resulted in a lower trash bill for residents as the trash did not have to be hauled as far and as part of their recycling program they rewared you with gift cards depending on how much you recycled. Why did Tom not like this idea? Was it the smell? No. The facility would be completely enclosed. Was it the location? How many people even know where Keystone Blvd. is. Than what was it? Ready for this: Tom did not want the trash trucks to dive past the Community College. Does that make sense to anyone since trash trucks drive past there now. Just one more example of one man trying to run a town through the back door.
